Romania day 4 - Arriving in Romania

From Szeged (Hungary) to Lainici (Romania)

Wake up and try the showers. There's nobody yet, so it isn't too bad. After having breakfast and doing the dishes we leave. The bill turns out to be higher than expected. But there is not a whole lot we can do about it. At the Romanian border first our passports are checked. Next there is a luggage inspection, we are allowed to pass without check. Probably because it is too hot, too much hassle or just because the fact that they don't seem to speak any english.

Just after Timisoara we get some money (Hurray it's a normal ATM), have a short break and continue. Because there are no good picnic spots, we have lunch on a small town square. It is clouded so a bench in front of the church will do. As soon as we are finished the clouds disappear and the blistering sun reappears. Time to go!

We hit our first gravel road and have to stop for a herd of sheep. The sheppard urges his sheep to cross the road and waves friendly as we go along. Eventually we get to a Lidl, where we buy ourselves some ice cream, that we eat on the parking lot. With these temperatures it really is the best ice cream ever!

Just before the end of our route we spot something that looks like a campsite. There is a sign with a tent on it, underneath it, it states 3 RON. But there is no one to pay to.

First we cook. But once it starts raining we pitch our tarp for the first time, to cover the picnic table. It went quite smooth.

After dinner, Sander pitches the tent and I do dishes in the stream. It's already dark so we have to do everything with our headlamps. Once the tent is pitched, it is bedtime. Especially when we discover that we have to put the clock forward one hour. Just as we crawl into the tent, Sander asks: "are there bears here?". Goodnight :S

Wakker worden en de douches maar eens uitproberen. Er is niemand dus het is niet zo erg. Na het ontbijten afwassen en vertrekken en dan blijkt de rekening toch meer dan verwacht. Bij de Roemeense grens krijgen we onze eerste paspoort controle daarna mogen we door naar de kofferbakcontrole, het zal de controleurs ook wel te warm of teveel moeite geweest zijn want we mogen zo door (of is het het feit dat ze geen engels lijken te spreken?).

Net na Timisoara geld pinnen (hoera pinautomaat) en even pauze houden daarna gaan we weer verder. We lunchen in een parkje in een centrum bij gebrek aan leuke picnictafels. Het is bewolkt dus dan is een bankje bij een kerk ook goed te doen. Zodra we klaar zijn met eten trekt de bewolking weg en komt de zon in volle glorie terug, tijd om te vertrekken dus.

We vinden ons eerste gravel pad en moeten stoppen voor een kudde overstekende schapen. We pauzeren weer even op het gravelpad en rijden dan door naar de Lidl. Daar trakteren we ons op een ijsje die we op het parkeerterrein opeten. Met deze temperaturen is het echt het heerlijkste ijsje ooit!

Net voor het eind van onze route vinden we een wazig soort kampeerplaats. Er staat een bord met een tentje en eronder 3 RON echter is er geen hond te bekennen dus waar moet je betalen. We gaan maar eerst even koken, als het dreigt te gaan regenen zetten we snel boven de picnictafel even onze tarp op. Dat gaat best soepel.

Na het eten gaat Sander de tent opzetten en ik afwassen in de beek het is al donker dus alles moet met ons hoofdlampje. Als de tent staat is het bedtijd, helemaal als we ontdekken dat de klok een uur vooruit moet. Net voor we de tent in kruipen vraagt Sander: zitten hier beren? Welterusten :s
