Exodus

On to Midlaren! Sander in the car and Marianne on her motorbike. Against all expectations we managed to make a short term, appointment with Raymond (Rayz seats) to customize our motorcycle seats. Wednesday they should be finished. Just in time, because next Saturday we will be leaving for Romania. Somewhere along the way, near Midlaren Sander sees a sign saying 'TT Plate 12.50'. Which got him thinking: "Gosh, will there be the TT today?". But he didn't pay further attention to it, as he should have done. We decide to go back home by A28. In that way, we can visit an outdoor store, to look at some stuff. At least that's what we thought. Close to Assen we were just in time to witness the exodus of the TT. Near the racetrack one of highway lanes is closed to allow all bikers to leave...

Touratech Travel Event

Every year, Bart (designer at Touratech) invites, members of the Dutch GS Club to come and help with the GS Challenge / Touratech Travel Event. This year we traveled to the Black Forest to support him. And of course test our motorcycles / equipment and get some inspiration. Particularly the latter has proven to be successful. It's Wednesday when we go to Germany. In the Netherlands we first take the highway. Near the German border we switch to the OnRoute motorcycle (GPS) map. But once we got the feeling we are not making any progress, we switch back to the Autobahn. At first the weather is fine, but then it suddenly starts to rain. Because the sky looks is pretty light, we just decide to continue driving. Hoping that once it stops raining, our suits will dry quickly. At first, this...

Tinkering

Today we finished installing the last electronics on Sander's motorcycle. It went a little smoother, because last week we already did Marianne's bike. Yet we still have been tinkering a whole day. The mounting of the tool tube, is causing some serious headaches. Because the luggage rack is so narrow, there really is only one way it could fit. It turns out, the helmet lock and the original tool box are in the way. These are however, for the purpose of theft, fixed with round nuts. So it requires some drilling. Once that's done, fit and measurement once again. The mounting of the tool tube remains a challenge. It also appears that the speedometer cable, for which we bought a new one yesterday, isn't broken at all. It's turning particularly difficult though, so replacing it probably...

Shopping

Because we still need some stuff, we went shopping today. Although we didn't manage to find everything we needed, it still was a reasonable success. First we went to Roukema in Wormerveer for a new speedometer cable, for Sander's motorcycle. That's also where we finally managed to find a set of feeler gauges (including the right sizes for our engines). YES! Next stop Motoport Wormerveer, as they turned out to be Daytona motorcycle boots dealer. Daytona produces 6cm high heel boots, for little girls. But as Marianne not only has short legs, but also very narrow feet, these boots unfortunately are too wide. On the Daytona website we discovered that they also make custom boots. Inquiry by email tells us that, making custom boots is possible at a 30% surcharge. And we are redirected...
